James R. Powers Inducted into Elizabeth Hall of Fame
On May 1st, 2003 the Elizabeth Athletic Hall of Fame honored ASA member and NJ Deputy UIC James R. Powers. Also inducted in the same group were George T. Cron, past Commissioner of NJ State ASA and Leo Spirito, current NJ State ASA Commissioner.
The 6th Annual Induction was held at the Westwood in Garwood, NJ. More than 300 attended to pay tribute to Powers and other inductees in the group. Presenting the awards were Hall of Fame Chairman Ed Jackus and Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage, both past ASA umpires.
Jim Powers taught physical education in the Clark school system for over 40 years. Having competed in ASA softball as a player for many years and upon winning the state championship, Jim decided to start umpiring.
Congratulations, Jim Powers, on another well-deserved honor!
